The Jim Collins Foundation’s mission recognizes the fact that violence and discrimination against transgender people are both so prevalent that many transgender people struggle to survive, let alone save enough money for gender-affirming surgery costs. JCF stands in solidarity with our Black and Brown trans and non-binary siblings who struggle to be seen, be heard, and be safe. Unfortunately, safety is a luxury out of reach for many trans people of color. JCF lifts up and amplifies the voices of Black and Brown communities’ call to end systemic racism, white supremacy, and police brutality.
JCF condemns the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and so many more across our nation. We demand those responsible be held accountable for their actions. Black and Brown transgender people are murdered at an unyielding rate in this country. By awarding grants for gender-affirming and life-sustaining surgeries, we aim to provide an avenue for safety and affirmation while reducing vulnerability. We aim to improve the health and lives of those most affected by racism and transphobia.
The fight for justice is not one that can be fought alone. It requires the sustained and dedicated work of all of us. JCF recognizes that our organization has much work to do and words are not action. The Jim Collins Foundation must show up in ways we have not previously for Black communities, specifically Black trans and non-binary communities.
We state unequivocally: Black Lives—and Black Trans Lives—Matter. We hope that you will join us in echoing this call for justice.
