Shonda Simpkins is the Senior Accountant – Payroll/Benefits of Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV.
As the Senior Accountant – Payroll/Benefits, Shonda is responsible for all aspects of payroll and benefits administration, as well as certain general ledger tasks including journal entry preparation, account reconciliation and analysis. Shonda brings over 12 years of nonprofit accounting experience to Lambda Legal. Prior to joining Lambda Legal, Shonda was a Controller at Thurgood Marshall College Fund TMCF) , whose mission is to develop and prepare a new generation of leaders by providing leadership development, scholarships, resources, opportunities and advocacy to Public Historically Black Colleges & Universities, students and alumni. As the Controller at TMCF, she worked hands-on with the President, Director of Development and Director of Programs to effectively select and maintain top quality students for TMCF Leadership Program, as well as reporting to donors and Federal Funding Agencies. In addition to Senior Accountant – Payroll/Benefits for Lambda and Controller for TMCF she’s also held positions including Operations Manager, Finance and Administrative Associate and Accountant.
Shonda attended Virginia State University majoring in Psychology and most recently obtained her Certification in Non-for-Profit Accounting and Governmental Reporting from New York University School of Continuing Professional Studies.
Shonda is also a proud member of Omicron Epsilon Pi Sorority, Inc., the nation’s first and only Greek letter organization that expends its resources specifically to the needs of lesbian women with a great emphasis on lesbians of color. Currently she holds the position of President of the Gamma Alpha Pi.
